Obesity and Heart Disease
Uncontrolled obesity can lead to a number of serious health issues, and ultimately an overtaxed body is susceptible to a weakened heart and heart disease.
The link between diabetes and heart disease is well documented, as the link between high blood pressure and issues such as heart attacks and stroke. Since obesity is the primary risk factor for diabetes and one of the primary risk factors for high blood pressure, it only makes sense that obesity puts a person at risk of a chain of events that lead to heart disease.
The connection between heart disease and weight has been looked at from a number of different directions, but a University of Iowa study seems to put a logical spin on the subject. “Fat cells around coronary arteries release chemicals that could trigger inflammation leading to deterioration of the vessels, says a new study that may provide the crucial link between obesity and heart disease.”
“Most large blood vessels in the body are enveloped in a layer of fat cells. The researchers suspect that the chemicals pumped out by the fat cells surrounding the coronary arteries might play a role in triggering heart disease by contributing to the deterioration of these vessels.”
Obesity puts a strain on body systems and the body compensates in ways that simply aren’t seen in normal weight individuals.
